Agrolinera – Remote connectivity to reduce waste in the livestock sector
The Agrolinera project
The Asturian company Agrolinera is developing a system that optimizes the collecting and treatment of waste from the livestock sector, such as slurry and serum. Its modular architecture, based on industrial containers, allows for quick and easy adaptation to different locations, making it ideal for rural areas with limited infrastructure.
What problems does it try to solve or improve?
Traditionally, slurry and serum have been seen as waste or by-products that are difficult to treat; however, this tool developed by the Asturian company with the technical support of our partner CTIC Centro Tecnológico, through the services it provides within the framework of AsDIH, wants to give them a new value.
What digital technology is used to solve the problem?
The success of this project is based on the ability to communicate remotely with a centralized control platform. This connectivity system allows operators to monitor operations in real time.
The project explored different connectivity technologies to suit the specific needs of each environment. The alternatives evaluated included mobile networks, with technologies such as LTE, NB-IoT and LTE-M, which offer a robust solution for areas with good coverage; LPWAN, i.e. solutions such as LoRaWAN and Sigfox that stand out for their low power consumption and ability to transmit data over long distances; proprietary connections to gateways designed for specific environments with dedicated connectivity requirements; and satellite communication: technologies such as Starlink and Globalstar, which guarantee global coverage in extremely isolated areas.
In addition, this project also incorporates advanced sensors that allow continuous monitoring of critical affecting variables such as temperature, pressure and fluid flow. These sensors not only improve collection efficiency, but also ensure that the waste is treated in optimal conditions for its later valorization.
What results are implied and what impact does it have?
Although the project was initially designed to operate in Asturias, its modular and flexible architecture allows it to adapt to any environment. Its scalable potential is evident, as it can be implemented both locally and internationally and can be adapted to the specific needs of each client and each region.
Moreover, Agrolinera is not only a tool for the present, but also a proposal for the future of the agro-industrial sector, since it allows optimizing the management of livestock waste, contributing to sustainability and strengthening the rural economy.
About Agrolinera
Agrolinera considers that traditional dairy farming is important for society and for the environment and, for this reason, develops technologies to make its future possible. The future depends on improving the standard of living of traditional livestock farming and reducing its impact on the territory and the climate, which requires intelligent waste management.
