Recinpra, a digital model to control recycling processes
THE RECINPRA PROJECT
Recinpra (Reciclados Industriales Pravia) will be able to improve the planning and control of its recycling processes thanks to the technical advice provided by our partner, Idonial Centro Tecnológico, through the services it provides within the framework of AsDIH. The Asturian company will apply discrete event modelling and simulation techniques, a compelling tool that allows it to observe all the interactions of a production system.
WHAT PROBLEMS ARE THEY SEEKING TO SOLVE OR IMPROVE?
This company is mainly dedicated to the mechanical recycling of plastic (PET, PP and PE) and sells more than 9,000 tons per year, both nationally and internationally. It has an extruder for obtaining r-PET pellets suitable for food consumption, as well as washing, crushing and mixing equipment. They are authorized waste managers for plastics, wood, paper, and cardboard and manage the containers of several Asturian companies.
With this service, they pursue three objectives. The first is to characterize the problems associated with production planning. This is achieved by collecting data and analysing the elements involved in the current planning systems and in the client’s production process.
Their second goal is to obtain the digital model that simulates the production process according to the current systematics.
Finally, the third objective is to evaluate the effect of possible changes on the current systematics.
WHAT DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY IS USED TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM?
Gradually, the 3D model of the resources involved in the production system and the calculation model that considers all the elements that define the behaviour of this system will be developed.
Once validated, the model will be opened to a phase of experimentation with the definition and modelling of new scenarios that represent alternatives to the current production organization systems. For each of these scenarios, different indicators associated with productivity and the use of productive resources will be analysed.
WHAT ARE THE RESULTS, AND WHAT IS THE IMPACT?
At the end of the project, Recinpra will have at its disposal a virtual model of its plant, which will be of great support in future decisions related to the production plan.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
Founded in 2013 and mainly dedicated to the mechanical recycling of plastic (PET, PP and PE), Recinpra has an average monthly management capacity of 800 tons, and sells more than 9,000 tons per year both nationally and internationally. In the past two years, they have grown exponentially, doubling their production capacity.
