Asturias Digital Innovation Hub will receive €1.9 million between 2026 and 2028 to continue promoting the digitalization of industrial SMEs.
The European Commission reaffirms its commitment to digitalisation and technological innovation in Spain, allocating €19 million to ten European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIH) (including Asturias Digital Innovation Hub, AsDIH) for the period 2026-2028 and awarding the Step (Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform) Seal to seventeen entities. This support not only endorses the quality and maturity of the national EDIH network, but also opens the door to strategic projects in advanced technologies, dual solutions and artificial intelligence applications.
The most recent analysis confirms the strength and relevance of the Spanish EDIH network within the European framework. In total, ten hubs have accessed direct funding for the next three years, with budgets ranging from €1.9 million to €5.9 million, reaching a cumulative total of €19,051,354.96. The ten Spanish DIH selected are DIH4CAT, AIR-Andalusia, Aragón EDIH, AsDIH, CIDIHUB, DIGIS3, EDIH Madrid Región, i4CAMHUB, INFAB HUB, and InnDIH.
The European Commission highlights our strong industrial focus, infrastructure, and technological expertise
In the case of AsDIH, the project, which will be carried out between 2026 and 2028, has a budget of close to two million euros, specifically €1,901,398.56.
During this period, we will also continue to collaborate with the ten partners and consolidate the range of network services, incorporating the Directorate-General for Digital Strategy and the Asturias Hub Defence cluster as associated entities.
Regarding our hub’s proposal, the European Commission highly valued its strong industrial focus, infrastructure and technological specialisation, as well as Asturias’ pioneering regulation of the use of artificial intelligence in public administration.
Seventeen entities receive Step Seal recognition
At the same time, seventeen entities have received the Step Seal, an official recognition from the European Commission that certifies the quality of their value proposition, their organisational strength and their alignment with the EU’s strategic objectives in the field of digital transformation. This distinction strengthens the hubs’ ability to attract additional funding, establish international alliances and lead initiatives in key fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, Industry 4.0 and the digitalization of SMEs.
This dual support—funding and accreditation—reflects a rapidly expanding ecosystem with a high degree of professionalisation and a key role in the implementation of advanced technological solutions in Spain and Europe.
“This support from the European Commission not only recognises the excellence of Spanish EDIH, but also strengthens our ability to bring artificial intelligence and advanced technologies to the business sector, especially SMEs and public institutions. We are facing a historic opportunity to consolidate a competitive, innovative digital ecosystem that is fully aligned with Europe’s strategic objectives,” according to statements by representatives of the national EDIH network.
The European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIH) are part of the European Commission’s strategy to promote digitisation in Member States, with a particular focus on SMEs and public institutions. EDIH act as one-stop shops to accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies, offering experimentation, training, and access to funding services.
In Spain, the EDIH network has established itself as a European benchmark, with more than a dozen funded hubs and seventeen entities accredited with the Step Seal, guaranteeing its strategic role in the country’s digital transformation.
Next steps
The European Digital Innovation Hubs network will continue to work on high-impact projects that facilitate the adoption of emerging technologies in strategic sectors. Likewise, obtaining the Step Seal opens up new avenues for international collaboration and access to complementary European funds.
